Documentary filmmaker and UCSB HD Video Production Instructor Chris Jenkins recently featured on the Horny Toad blog

Documentary filmmaker Chris Jenkins was behind the lens of award-winning films such as The Matador (2008), Riverwebs (2007), Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars (2005) and Marley (2012). We met him while he was shooting Interviews 50 Cents at MountainFilm in Telluride and have been a big fan of his work ever since. Currently Chris teaches HD Video Production in the Film and Media Studies department here at UC Santa Barbara. We’re so stoked that he was willing to make this little video for the fourth post in our series for National Teacher Appreciation Month.

infrastructure for social networks

Professor Lisa Parks (Film and Media
Studies) and co-PIs Elizabeth Belding
(Computer Science), Miriam Metzger
(Communication) and Ben Zhao
(Computer Science) have been awarded
a grant from the US State Department's
Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and
Labor in the amount of $2,324,354.00 for
a 3 year project called "FlowNet: Internet
freedom and free flow information through
socially informed, censor-resistant online
social networks." The purpose of the
project is to improve accessibility,
availability, robustness, and privacy of
online social network services and
participation, ensuring users can share
critical information and upload content
despite interruptions to underlying network
infrastructure or fears about privacy from
government surveillance. The project team
will build, implement and deploy FlowNet,
a technical infrastructure that provides
limited anonymity properties against active
attackers and censors.
