Kurt Webb

Graduation Year 2006

Kurt Webb’s success story began a lot differently than a typical UCSB graduate. Kurt started school at a local community college in Palm Springs studying mass communications and began working for KMRI 6 (a NBC affiliate studio) in Palm Springs working in all areas of production. Starting as a floor director working cameras during the newscast to moving into the control room as an assistant director, then to audio technician and finally as a technical director. After getting an associates degree, and working for two years after finishing community college, Kurt decided it was a good idea to go back to college to get a bachelors degree and that is where Santa Barbara came in.

Being a twenty three year old transfer, Kurt was not your typical college student. Right after graduation Kurt applied for jobs at all the major studios but ended up getting an interview for FOX Sports and he has worked there ever since. Kurt began working for production and the .com FOX Sports website and has gotten to experience the Super Bowl, the Olympics and has even gotten to touch the Stanley Cup. Kurt has enjoyed working for FOX and recently just go promoted a Highlights Supervisor for FOX Sports on the department floors. He definitely enjoyed traveling with the company but is excited to start this new chapter of his life in the studio.

Recent news with Kurt is that that FOX Sports 1 (the new sports news channel) will be launching in mid-August and he will be a part of the new endeavor. Kurt plans on continuing with FOX and has enjoyed getting to enjoy everything they have had to offer him thus far.

Two Pieces of Advice
There is not a set path for everyone so find the way that’s best for you. If that means jumping around from job to job so be it. Make sure to try everything once so that you can get an idea about what you want to do and what industry you want to get into and especially what you DON’T want to do.
