BRIEF BIO:
I spent my first eighteen years as a victim of  Friday night football and everyday prejudice in  Nowhere, West Texas,  but was born alive at UCLA, and finished my “education” at U.C. Berkeley.  The AFI completed my ivory tower stint, then the usual anxiety in the unreal, real world of film, books, and stage.  Blessed by two children and a few friends, I live in awe of the Santa Ynez Mountains in barrio Santa Barbara,  far enough from loco Los Angeles, but still able to wait in traffic for the occasional lunch, still hopeful someone will like my next script.
Film:
I’ve worked on several films as writer, rewriter, and/or scriptdoctor, including The Triumph of the Spirit, Into I (Caught)t, and Cortilla Coscina (Children of Fate) with director Bob Young,  Behind the Veil and The Exile with director Paul Cox (in Australia) , and N.O.R.M.A.L. with director Cecilia Miniucchi (in Rome).  In Vienna, I worked with producer Klaus Lintschinger on Mindwalk  and Man of the Trees,  in London and Vienna with producer Faramarz Ettahadieh on Day of the Wolf,  in Venice, Calif. with producer Bill Benenson on Maria and Checkhov, Silent Spring, and Mr. Johnson,  in Malibu with producer Cheryl DuBois on Jack and Marilyn, and usually at the race track in Del Mar, Calif. or in smokefilled rooms in Montecito, Calif. with the late Jeffrey Selznick on The Enchantress and  The Confidence Man.   Over 15 short films produced when I was young and energetic
Plays:
My plays include Shakespeare’s Second Best Bed (work-in-progress with producer Adam Friedson), Woyzeck  (Berkeley Playhouse), and Amin’s Dream (Boulder Rep.).
Books:
The Body Electric Videos
( to be released 2008) The Silent Spring of Rachel Carson (screenplay coming out this fall )The Body Electric Journal ( Plain View Press 2007), The Flower Vendor ( Firebird Press 2005), Spontaneous Mind (Harper Collins), Visionary Poetics and Paper Song (Ross-Erikson), The Turquoise Mockingbird of Light (Mudborn Press), Hands Across the Earth (Tree Press),  and Saving Grace (Gondwana Publications).
Awards:
Fulbright (France), Ford Foundation Fellow, NEA Fellow, AFI Fellow, Focus Best Independent Screenplay Award, Briarcomb Writers Award, AFI Best TV Screenplay, et al.
Teaching Experience:
U.C. Berkeley, USC, University of Provence/Sorbonne, U.C.L.A., S.B.C.C.,  UCSB.
