2024 Social Sciences & Media Studies

Rachel Fabian received her Bachelors Degree in Arts in 2011 from the University of Vermont, where she first began exploring the relationship between films and the political. She has presented at the University of Vermont's Annual Race, Gender, and Sexuality Conference, and also completed an undergraduate thesis titled Unseen and Unheard: Feminist Politics and the Iranian Mother in the Films of Mohsen Makhmalbaf and Abbas Kiarostami. Her interests include nationalist cinemas and national memory, subaltern studies, feminist thought, and marxist theory. Psychoanalysis has been a driving force in Rachel's research, and her goal is to combine psychoanalytic concepts with other schools of thought in order to inform her study of non-Western cinemas.
