Is Marxism still useful in problematizing social inequalities still prevalent in our times? This course answers this question by examining a series of films that attempt to reveal, analyze, and challenge the logic of capitalism that still dominates the world at large. Given the global spread of Marxism and leftist ideologies from the late 19th century onward, we investigate film and written materials from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, in addition to those from the Soviet Union, Europe, and North America.
