Biography
Mike Goemaat is a PhD candidate in the Department of Film and Media Studies at UC Santa Barbara. He received his MA in Cinema and Media Studies from the University of Southern California, and his BA in English from Dickinson College. His primary research is in the fields of media industry studies and queer production studies, focusing on the business strategies that studios and subscription video-on-demand services are using to transform the production, distribution, and reception of domestic and international LGBTQ+ film and television. He has presented research at SCMS, the Media Industries Conference, and Blockbuster Futures, and his work will soon be appearing in the Journal of Popular Culture and Queer Studies in Media and Popular Culture.
